Tennis!!

Tennis has come a long way since the days of Steffi Graph and Pete Samprass. Tennis no longer seems to be a game of placements but more of raw power and energy. Its been quite sometime since I actually watched a tennis game, I had the opportunity yesterday

I was watching our very own Sania Mirza play in the US Open. I did not watch the whole match, but saw couple of games in the first set. What struck me the most is that not a single shot either from her or her opponent was played with a soft hand. All shots were played from the baseline and with a lot of power. There was loads of running from both the players from one end of the court to the other

I don't know if many will agree with me on this, but I always felt that tennis was a game of placements and strategy. The ability to think fast and plan shots, the ability to change the power of the return shot and the ability to save energy by running less but making the opponent run more.

Don't quite know if the men's game has also evolved the same way. I miss those soft back hand slashes, the straight back hand return, the drops and the smashes from the net. Of course, I havent watched anything for quite sometime now...Will probably catch up on a couple matched in the next few days.... :-)
