Did you know that this is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu, I actually didn’t. I have been to Madurai and the adjoining places N number of times but somehow I haven’t been to Coimbatore at an age I can recollect. I have some friends who hail from this place by virtue of mostly being born there and am sure they will vouch by what I say that today, it’s a great place to be in.
Today Coimbatore is what Bangalore was probably a decade ago till it was discovered. Coimbatore is also on the lane to fame, and when it does it going to snap the town of its sleep.
Coimbatore is in proximity to the ‘textile country’ of Tiruppur and houses a few textile units also. The city is almost brimming with corporates but adequately spaced through out the city. Name an industry and you’ll have then there, from textile to auto ancillary to sugar. The beauty is that most of them operate out of the city but probably have their production units elsewhere and thereby have managed to provide the city with some peace, not entirely though.
The city is also populated with educational institutions (read engineering colleges) just like Chennai. As of for now there are not many places of attraction for a party animal like me except for temples like the famous Marudamalai Murugan temple some 40 odd Kms from the city and the Siva temple at Perur. The people seem pretty sweet and if I may say so trustworthy, at least the driver of my cab was….but of course you never know, every city will have its own baddy!!
Net net the city is a delight to be in but whatever you do, if you don’t know the place stay away from the auto waalas, they freaking fleece you. The charge the heaven that you’ll actually feel sorry for bad mouthing the Chennai auto waalas!!!
